Surf, Hops and History
Celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the 1964 World Titles with Bennett’s Surf, McTavish and Tracks Magazine from Friday 25 October to Sunday 27 October, 2024. Three days of all things surf culture!
Bennett Surf has been in the surf industry longer than any other Australian manufacturer. Founder Barry Bennett was a pivotal member of the Brookvale Six and a much-loved local legend who was still hands on in the Bennett factory on Harbord Road until shortly before he died in 2022, aged 91.
Barry’s passion, legacy and business are carried on today by his son Greg and grandson Tom. While Bennett Surf’s core business is providing quality surf craft, hardware and apparel, Greg and Tom have turned what was once the main factory space into the Brooky Surf Club, a multi-purpose venue. It houses an impressive, historically-significant collection of surfboards and a demonstration shaping bay as well as space and facilities for holding film screenings, live music, and other events.
The Brooky Surf Club was officially launched in August. Greg and Tom have exciting plans for the new space, kicking off with the three-day Surf, Hops & History surf-culture event from 25–27 October, supported by McTavish Surfboards, Tracks magazine, SurfCraft Brewing and Brookvale Arts District.
